It may happen that you will even contemplate suicide yourself during this time. Many do, especially after the third month or so, when they hit rock bottom. I urge you to get help if you start feeling that way. You're not losing your mindyou're reacting to the blow of a terrible emotional injury, and you can be helped. A major concern during this depressed period will be your health.
How do you deal with your severe feelings of guilt? How do you respond to those who you feel are all pointing their fingers at you? Moreover, how can you keep from constantly blaming yourself? One way of response is through denial. You can convince yourself that the death was an accident or a homicide, and thereby remove the question of your responsibility from the situation. I hear this approach from parents of adolescents who "accidentally" overdosed on an entire bottle of sleeping pills or "accidentally" shot themselves in the head.
